Pengertian Resepsionis Hotel
 Penerima tamu di kantor depan memiliki banyak istilah atau sebutan. Ada
yang menyebutkannya dengan istilah Front Desk Agent, Front Desk Clerk, Guest
Service Agent, Guest Room Service dan Receptionist. Semua istilah yang disebut di
atas sama artinya, hanya saja cara penyebutannya berbeda, sebagaimana yang
dijelaskan oleh J.Martin (1991:45) dalam bukunya Human Relation for the
Hospitality Industry bahwa:
The front desk of a hotel or motel is usually the primary nexus between
guest and hotel or motel. The person working the front desk, whatever the
job title-front desk clerk, receptionist, guest service agent-is a person who
register and checks the guest in and out, keeps records by hand or
computer, relates to the housekeeping and other departments, and
generally operates an information and record center”.
 Lebih lanjut Robert J. Martin, memberikan definisi tentang resepsionis/Desk
Clerk, sebagai berikut:
Desk clerk in hotels or motels are often the first people to greet incoming
guest. They register the guest, assign a room to them, issue the room key,
and often provide information about services available in the hotel and in
the community).
 Berdasarkan pendapat Robert J. Martin, jelas bahwa istilah apa pun yang
dipakai untuk menyebut penerima tamu, dia adalah seseorang yang bekerja/bertugas
di Depan Hotel. Desk Clerk adalah orang/petugas yang pertama sekali menyambut
tamu dan memberi salam kepada setiap tamu yang datang ke hotel.Ia lalu
mendaftarkan tamu, mencarikan kamar yang siap ditempati tamu baik atas sarannya
atau atas permintaan tamu, memberikan/mengeluarkan kunci kamar. Ia juga harus
menyediakan informasi bagi tamu sehubungan denagn pelayanan/fasilitas yang
tersedia di hotel serta informasi lainnya di luar hotel
